Graphene has much potential application to enhance the properties of fabrics and can also be incorporated within them to enable ‘smart clothing’ to be developed. Smart wearable textiles have experienced a renaissance in recent years through the innovation and miniaturization and wireless revolution.

Thereis an effort to integrate textile-based sensors into garments, however current manufacturing processes are complex and time consuming, expensive, and the materials used are non-biodegradable and use unstable metallic conductive materials.

The new commercial applications in the textile industry—to attach the new, graphene-based electronic fibers to create touch- sensor and light-emitting devicesas well as health monitoring, such as heart rates and blood pressure, and medical diagnostics.The new technique means that the fabrics can incorporate truly wearable displays without the need for electrodes, wires of additional materials.
